The AKT Manufacturing Group is pleased to announce the recipients of 2016’s Young Entrepreneurs Business Week (YEBW) scholarships are Griffin White ‘19 (Tesla STEM High School), Amanda Acker ‘18 (La Salle High School), and Alexander Aguilar Navarro ’17 (Hillsboro High School).
YEBW is a week-long program for high school students taking place at the University of Portland (UP), University of Oregon (UO), and Oregon State University (OSU) campuses. The aim of the program is to provide students with the financial literacy, business fundamentals, and the confidence they need to be self-sufficient and successful. As students run through business simulations in teams and hear inspiring talks from real entrepreneurs or executives, they explore various job fields and industries—including manufacturing.
“We are thrilled to offer this wonderful opportunity to these talented students in order to cultivate the next generation of business and community leaders,” said Chad Summers, YEBW Board of Directors. “While AKT could only give three scholarships, we were also able to connect five additional qualified candidates with scholarships from other YEBW sponsors with the help of AKT’s endorsement.”
Applicants of the AKT scholarship must be a child of a parent or guardian working for a manufacturing business and were asked to write a short, 500-word essay discussing solutions needed in the marketplace and the importance of continuous improvement.
Summers is currently on the YEBW Board of Directors and has been a volunteer judge for the camp in the past.
