Empowering your business with R+D tax credits and other incentives

Tax credits and incentives can help offset costs, improve cash flow, and reduce your effective tax rate. Identifying and capturing all available incentives, however, can be complex.

With the enactment of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), businesses now benefit from a major change: full expensing of U.S.-based R&D costs are permanent starting in 2025. The Aldrich R&D OBBBA checklist can help you identify potential considerations for your company under the new legislation.

At Aldrich CPAs + Advisors, our professionals bring deep experience across a range of credits, including business incentives, economic development, employment-based programs, and research and development (R&D) activities.

Enhanced R&D Deductions Under the New Tax Law

R+D tax credits are available to a wide variety of industries at both the Federal and, in most cases, the state level.

New R&D federal provisions as a result of OBBBA can help simplify planning and improve cash flow for companies investing in innovation, product development, or process improvement, even if they do not claim the R&D credit itself. Additional transition options allow businesses to retroactively deduct previously capitalized R&D costs or accelerate unamortized balances from 2022 to 2024.

R&D incentives are designed to encourage U.S. companies to maintain their competitive advantages through continued innovation and improvements. The credit applies to a number of areas within your business, including some salaries, materials, and contract services for qualified activities. A number of elements in the manufacturing and distribution field may be eligible for an R+D tax credit claim.

Economic development

With a growing business, there may be opportunities for economic development incentives:

  • Identify available credits
  • Monitor and manage screening compliance and form compliance
  • Submit forms to state agencies for tax credit certification
  • Calculate credits
  • Document eligible expenses and produce a detailed audit trail
